Common Summer Questions

  • Summer swim is best for swimmers who are comfortable in the water, can swim 25 yards unassisted in at least one stroke, and are ready for structured practices and swim meets. This is not a swim lesson program, but a developmental competitive team focused on skill growth, confidence, and race experience.

  • Families should plan for weekday morning practices and typically 1–2 afternoon swim meets per week. Practices range from 45–60 minutes depending on age group, and meets usually last a few hours depending on a swimmer’s events.

  • Attendance at practices and meets is strongly encouraged, as consistency is important for swimmer development and team participation. That said, we understand families may have occasional conflicts during the summer, and swimmers are welcome to attend the practices and meets that work best for their schedules.

  • Swimmers typically stay at meets only for their scheduled events and are free to leave once they have completed their races. Families do not need to remain for the entire meet unless they choose to.

Championships & League Finals

  • League Finals take place at the end of the summer season and are part of the Desert Swim League schedule. Swimmers compete in League Finals only if they qualify under league rules.

  • Championship eligibility is determined by Desert Swim League rules, which include swimmer participation during the season, qualifying times, and other league-specific requirements. Not every swimmer will qualify for championship events, and some swimmers may qualify in only certain strokes or distances.

  • No. The league places limits on how many swimmers each team may enter per event and age group. Because of these limits, even eligible swimmers may not be entered if the team has already reached the maximum number of entries for a specific event.

  • Coaches and team leaders handle all championship entries in accordance with league rules. Families will be notified in advance if their swimmer qualifies and which events they are entered in. Coaches are not able to override league rules or entry limits.

Parent Volunteer Information

Parent involvement is an important part of a successful swim season. Volunteer roles at meets may include:

  • Timers

  • Ribbon table

  • Concessions

Volunteer sign-ups and details will be shared via email throughout the season.
